A+++++++++++++++++++!!

I was very impressed with their food. They were clean, very traditional and delicious. Me and my wife eat out a lot and these days, we have been disappointed with all the Japanese food around Bay Area. We are from Japan and we really miss traditional, not fusion, Japanese food. We were both really satisfied with their food. The price was reasonable. Their tenpura is one of the best I think. It reminded me of the fancy tenpura dish we had in Tokyo. Their quality is really high. I could tell by their cooking. The sauce was not thick and starchy like any other restaurant. Thank God!

Authentic!

Since I came to the States, I have been really dissapointed by Japanese food over here. I miss my country's cooking. This was my first visit to this old restaurant and I was really satisfied. Tempura, Sashimi and Tonkatsu were so good. They are authentic Japanese restaurant which is so rare these days.

Best Japanese anywhere in East Bay

Posted by creampie on 6/9/2008

I have tried almost every Japanese restaurant in East Bay area. And most of them were such a dissapointment. I didn't expect much from them also. Me and my husband tried Tempura, Sashimi and Teppanyaki. They were SO good. I used to live in Osaka, Japan and I tried all kinds of Japanese food over there. I think I know the standard. Yokohama is the only place that has the same standard as traditional Japanese dishes in Japan. And it was really nice we could taste a real Japanese food without flying here in El Cerrito. They remimded me of my grandma's cooking. And the atmosphere was really peaceful. If you want to experience real Japanese dishes, visit Yokohama. You won't be dissaponted. And we will be there soon again !

Something Very Right -Still after Twenty Years

Posted by desisake on 6/11/2007

This place has been popular and doing business at the same location for over twenty years. IT IS delicious. Traditional Japanese dishes that were awseome; and new to me, served up in a seductive cozy environment. The original owners recently traded chef?s hat to the new owner who has infused and expanded the menu. The very affordable soups, Nigiri, appetizers are gorgeous and will tantalize every taste bud for each and every diner. Now a full complex in taste and texture sushi menu, and fresh fish daily, along with and extensive lunch box menu. Long term fans and friends spoke so highly of YOKOHAMA, I ventured through the tunnel. Wowed by the Creamy Hot-Sweet Crab Puffs was the beginning. The extensive SAKE offered, has converted me to being cold SAKE drinker. Good Bye Red Wine. California Asian Cuisine has converted me to the West Coast, Goodbye New York.
